Morning Sickness Remedies

Morning sickness remedies

 Life baby

You may suffer from morning sickness either some or all of the time and you will probably feel very tired. Some mothers describe the tiredness in early pregnancy as overwhelming... almost like jetlag. It's strange too how the first 12 weeks can be really physically hard but you look just the same and most people don't know you are pregnant so you don't get any sympathy. Here are some tried and tested remedies.

Ginger

In any form, although it's best to get the real thing: you can get it in the supermarkets and it looks like a piece of dead wood. Peel the "bark" off and cut a few slices or grate some into a cup and fill with hot water to infuse. Add honey to taste. Sip through the morning or through the day as necessary. Otherwise, ginger biscuits are pretty effective too and ginger tea bags are widely available.

Sea-sickness bands

Available from most chemists, these are bands you wear on your wrist with a plastic nodule that digs gently into the acupressure point for nausea. Reportedly very effective for morning sickness.

Fresh air

Open the windows or go and sit outside. Central heating can make you feel worse.

Nibbling crackers

Cream crackers or water biscuits. Just keep a supply with you and nibble them throughout the day. Keep them by your bed and try and have a couple before you get up.

Cider vinegar and honey

A teaspoon of cider vinegar and one of honey, mixed in a cup of hot water. Add more honey if you need to. Sip with meals to balance and neutralise your internal system.

Vitamin B6

50mgs a day has been shown to be effective, but as always with any supplements ask your doctor or midwife if this is OK.
