‘Steps' is a registered Charity and a Company limited by guarantee. The nursery is managed by a parent/ volunteer board of trustees.
We provide care for children from the age of 6 months and up to the age of 5 in a happy, relaxed, safe, stimulating environment. We have four rooms:
• Yellow Group - 6 months to 2 years
• Green Group - 2 to 3 years
• Blue Group - 3 to 4 years
• Red Group - 4 to 5 years
Registration & Inspection
We are registered to receive Nursery Education Funding for 3 & 4 year olds and we are inspected by Ofsted (Office for Standards in Education) for the Quality and Standards of the Care and Nursery Education we provide.
We support children's development using the Birth to Three Matters Framework and the Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage.

We are also a member of the Pre-school Learning Alliance, through whom we have appropriate insurance cover.
Staffing
We provide a high ratio of staff to children:
Under 1 year 1 : 2
Under 2 years 1 : 3
Under 3 years 1 : 4
Under 4 years 1 : 5
4+ years 1 : 7
All our staff have training, qualifications, and experience in caring for children in day care settings, and many have children of their own.
Our Nursery Nurses hold the NNEB or NVQ Level 3 Childcare & Education qualification, and our Nursery Assistants have training through the Introduction to Pre-School Practice (IPP) at NVQ Level 2.
Many staff have also been registered childminders and completed the training course for childminders.
Most of the staff have undergone First Aid Training, and regularly attend courses in Childcare and Education, to further their knowledge and improve their practice.
