TOUGH STANCE ON NUISANCE NEIGHBOURS
Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Homes have shown once again that they wont tolerate nuisance neighbours, and persistent offenders will face eviction.
Mandy Gott, aged 41 of Boynton Road, Shirecliffe has until 4 January 2008 to leave her property or she will be evicted. Earlier this year the Council applied for an eviction warrant because of complaints about Ms Gott shouting, swearing, fighting, and failing to keep her dog under control. Ms Gott asked for the order to be suspended because she and her family had quietened down. Judge Moore refused the application at Sheffield County Court because he had little faith that the situation would change and felt that the neighbours had already suffered enough.
The Council was also recently granted a postponed possession order against Jayne and Russell Cawthorne, both aged 35 of Winn Gardens. The Cawthornes did not oppose the order, which the Council requested because of reports of criminal activity at their property, abusive behaviour towards staff, and rent arrears. The order will remain in place until November 2010, and the couple will only be allowed to remain in their property if they pay their rent and comply with their tenancy conditions. Judge Birkby heard the case at Sheffield County Court.
Everton Charles Haughton, aged 42, of Oxford Road, Middlewood, also faces eviction if he does not keep to his tenancy conditions. He and a family member have been convicted of drugs offences following police raids at his property. At Sheffield County Court, Judge Young gave Mr Haughton one final chance to keep his property because he has taken steps to change his behaviour, imposing a Postponed Possession Order until January 2010. If the order is breached the Council will apply to evict Mr Haughton.
Councillor Mazher Iqbal, Cabinet Advisor for Safety, said: "I'd like to thank the courts for once again supporting our tough stance on anti-social behaviour. We want to work with tenants and give them every chance to remain in their property, however if they persist in making other people's lives miserable we have to take action, and we will evict people when all other measures are ignored.
