DEVONSHIRE GREEN IS OPEN FOR SUMMER!

Sheffield City Council is proud to announce that the £1.6 million project to transform Devonshire Green is now complete.
Since the project began only a year ago the city centre space has undergone a complete facelift. An amazing 5500 square metres of new turf has been laid, and 340 square metres of high quality planting has been added including the planting of over 23000 bulbs and 22 semi- mature trees. Sculptured ‘sitting walls' have been created to provide 184 metres of seating and enclosure for the planting beds.
The area now also has an amphitheatre space with terraced grass verges and a paved area to enable the green to be used as a venue for music festivals and events.
Les Sturch, Sheffield City Council Interim Director of Development Services, said: " We are thrilled that Devonshire Green has been transformed into an area which visitors can enjoy and residents can feel proud of. By improving the space we have created an area that can be used by a whole range of people for a variety of purposes including events and festivals. We have also improved the lighting and amenities which make it safer for everyone."
This project was 100% funded by contributions from city centre residential developments.
Improvements to Devonshire Green include:
• New structural planters or ‘sitting walls', which can be used as sculptural seating and add colour and interest.
• A paved area to provide space for events and outdoor market stalls for example arts and crafts.
• Resurfaced and new paths.
• Improved surface drainage and reshaped main grass area.
• Amphitheatre event space with terraced grass verges.
• Improved lighting, new seating and bins.
• Improved boundary wall around the skate park.
