Chief Praises "Deserved" MBE
SYFR's Chief Fire Officer, Mark Smitherman, has expressed his delight at the MBE awarded to assistant control manager, Andrea Shaw.
He said: "On behalf of everyone at South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, I would like to offer our warmest congratulations to Andrea on this fully deserved honour. On the afternoon of Monday 25th June, we were receiving an emergency call every 30 seconds but thanks to the professionalism of our control staff, led by Andrea, those calls were prioritised to enable our crews to perform several hundred rescues to keep the people of South Yorkshire safe.
"I am sure Andrea won't mind me saying that this recognition for her is also a recognition of the outstanding work carried out by all our staff. The floods thrust us into the spotlight, but our firefighters, control staff and support staff provide the people of South Yorkshire with a first-class service, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are delighted that one of our own has been honoured in such a way to highlight the excellent work being carried out by all.
"However, Andrea is a great example of everything that is good about our people, and an extremely worthy recipient of an MBE. Professional, calm in a crisis, and committed to our organisation for the past 26 years, this is a just reward for an outstanding individual."
