Firefighter Raises Cash For Fallen Colleagues
A South Yorkshire Firefighter has handed over a cheque for the Warwickshire Firefighters Families Fund, after raising hundreds of pounds at a professional boxing match in Sheffield.
Jez Wilson, based at Darnall Station, fought a Firefighter from Greater Manchester at Sheffield's Grosvenor Hotel in November.
After winning the contest, Jez arranged for a collection in aid of the four Warwickshire Firefighters who lost their lives in a blaze at a warehouse on November 2nd.
Members of the crowd raised almost £360, which is to be donated to the Warwickshire Firefighters Families Fund. The cash will go directly to the families of those who died.
Jez said: "I was chatting to my manager Glyn Rhodes about what we could do to help the Firefighter's families. We decided to pass a collection around the crowd - I was expecting to raise around £50 - so we were amazed to see how much had been donated".
"We're really grateful to everyone who donated - and hope the gesture will go some small way to lifting the sadness and stress which the families of our fallen comrades will be feeling at this time of Year".
Jez and Glyn handed over the cheque to his Station Manager Gerry Murray this week, and the money will now be sent to the WFFF.
