As Maximum Impact On Crime continues across the city, Police in Sheffield have already made a BIG IMPACT on local criminals living within our communities.
Over 900 people have been arrested for offences including drugs, burglary, antisocial behaviour and criminal damage. More than £300,000 in drugs, stolen goods and assets, plus 29 weapons have been recovered during the first two weeks of the regional campaign. Officers are determined to keep the pressure on and have carried out a number of successful search warrants and policing operations.
Successes Include:
Following the execution of a drugs warrant in the Basegreen area a large quantity of cannabis plants and a number of weapons were seized from the property. Officers also recovered large a number of lizards, snakes and various types of spiders. RSPCA staff were alerted who took them away to provide specialist care. Three men were arrested at the scene and have since been released on police bail.
A warrant executed in the Handsworth area resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of what is believed to be cocaine and a substantial amount of cash. A man and woman have been charged with possession of class A drugs with intent to supply and money laundering. Both people have been remanded in custody.
A warrant executed at an address in the Netherthorpe area led to the seizure of a large quantity of what is believed to be crack cocaine and cocaine, a large quantity of cash and three weapons. A man in his mid 20s from the London area was arrested and released on police bail.
A large-scale cannabis factory was discovered in the Sharrow area, plants and equipment were recovered from the premises at an estimated value of £30,000.
Whilst on routine patrol in the Lowedges area, PCSOs came across a burglary in progress. Police were called for backup and six people were arrested in connection with the incident.
And following a high visibility patrol in the city centre officers stopped and searched a male acting suspiciously near the market area. He was arrested for possession with intent to supply class A drugs and appeared at Sheffield Magistrates court where he was remanded in custody.
During Operation Maximum Impact, officers have also located and apprehended four persistent prolific offenders.
As Operation Maximum Impact On Crime continues across the city, a number of operations to identify and target criminals will be carried out. A variety of initiatives including stop and search operations, high visibility patrols in hotspot areas for burglary, operations targeting outstanding warrants for suspects and covert operations are planned for the forthcoming weeks.
Sheffield Superintendent Andy Barrs said: "This is only just the beginning and we fully intend to tighten our grip on problems which affect our communities. We want Sheffield to be an enjoyable and safe place for people living, working and visiting the city. I would ask the public to continue to work closely with the police and our partners. Together we can make a big difference and continue with this crackdown. "
