HAVE YOUR SAY ON WHERE 5,000 TREES WILL BE PLANTED

Local people can have a say in where some of the 5,000 trees ordered by Sheffield City Council will be planted over the next few months.
The City Council has allocated £50,000 for planting an extra 5,000 trees as part of their commitment to improve Sheffield's green environment. This is the biggest ever tree planting programme in the city and represents a major boost to the environment and city's urban forest.
The Council is asking local people to suggest locations for planting the trees across the city and will be working with communities so they can become involved in every stage of the planting process.
Councillor Shaffaq Mohammed, the Council's Cabinet member for Climate Change and Local Environment stated: "Local people have told us that one of the key things they love about Sheffield is our vast amount of trees. Therefore, I'm delighted that we can add to this by bringing forward the biggest ever tree planting programme that Sheffield has ever seen.
"We want local people to be a key part of the programme so we will be working with local residents, community groups and schools to plant the trees this year. But people will also be able to log on to the Council website to say where they want trees planted in their community. Depending upon the level of response, we may not be able to meet every request this time, but we will log all suggestions and aim to build them into future tree-planting projects."
As many people as possible will be involved in this project by getting involved at every stage of its implementation, from planning through to the planting. Anyone belonging to an organisation that may want to become involved in the planting should let the Council know when they send in their suggestions.
People who have suggestions for possible sites should visit the Council's web site at http://www.sheffield.gov.uk or write to the Council's Parks and Countryside Service at Meersbrook Park, Brook Road, Sheffield S8 9FL giving the exact location of where you would like to see some of the trees planted. If you have any queries about this project, you can phone the Council at 0114 273 4190.
