Eric & Heidi - March 08 Reindeer Update
| Published: 24th June 2007 20:31 |
As you will remember Heidi & Eric moved up here after Christmas to live at Jumble Lane Cattery, Ecclesfield, they have had an easy winter up to now, and a very pleasant spring. Obviously being quite tough animals even the recent rain did not seem to bother them, (just sometimes when it gets too much they stick their heads inside the shed).

Here is the new Reindeer family member Olga, she is 9 months old and has just arrived at Jumble Lane. She is still quite timid and because she is adopted, not Eric & Heidi's offspring, she is not been fully accepted by them. So although they don't harm her she keeps a short distance away for now but we are sure that will change eventualy.

As you can see their new antlers are getting quite big now, they grow new ones every year. You can tell them apart by the size of the antlers Eric has a much larger rack than Heidi. If the dog or goat try to pinch their food they just lower their head & show them the antlers and the threat is enough.
They are really very friendly & inquisitive, not at all afraid or aggressive, in fact they used to give the owners a bit of a shock by looking in through the window at night, almost ghostly. As you can see here they like to investigate everything.
They seem really happy here & get on well with the dog, goat & loads of cats. It will be interesting to see how they behave at mateing time although they may be a little bit too young yet. But never the less it just maybe the time to be wary of Eric!
Keep coming back & we will keep updating you on the situation, we love to do it, they are such charming & approachable animals that we enjoy any opportunitiy to visit them. Seems strange to find Reindeer at a Cattery but they don't seem to mind.
