Laughter really is the best medicine!

Published: 25th April 2008 14:29
Libraries in and around Lichfield are gearing up for a fun Adult Learners' Week with a full programme of imaginative free events and activities to inspire people to try something new.

At Lichfield Library, the fun begins on Saturday 17th May, 3.00-4.00pm with a Laughter Therapy Workshop run by experienced therapist Rob Graham.

This free workshop is part of a Health Information Day, when library customers can talk to, among others, practitioners of Reiki, Hypnotherapy and Aromatherapy.

During the following week, there will be opportunities to try a hand at creative writing, learning Spanish, scrap booking or planting a colourful flower-pouch to brighten up the garden.

On Friday 23rd May, a free IT surgery offering help from a qualified tutor will also be running in Lichfield Library IT Suite, 10am -12noon.

At Shenstone Library, those of an artistic nature will want to pop in for the water-colour painting demonstration on Thursday 22nd May, 1.30pm-2.30pm.

There will also be an opportunity for visitors to learn the tricks of online retail therapy with Online Shopping Taster sessions that will run on Friday 23 May between 2.30pm -5pm.

Finally, in an age of fast cars and fast food, why not get your history fast on Friday 23 May with the talk "A History of Birmingham in under an hour" by author and lecturer Peter Leather.

There are two chances to catch this speedy local-history event, one at 10.30am at Shenstone Library and one at 2.00pm at Lichfield Library.

Maureen Compton, CountyCouncillor and Cabinet Support Member for Cultural Services said says "We're hoping to build on the successful Adult Learners Week events of previous years by offering people a wide variety of free taster sessions. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone looking for a new hobby or for those who simply fancy trying something different to come along to a free, informal learning event."

All events are free but advance booking is advisable.

Please contact Lichfield Library (01543) 510700 or Shenstone Library (01543) 480915 to book or for further details.
