Shopping Trends in the Spotlight!
| Published: 11th June 2007 13:59 |
Were you a supermarket shopper in the 1950s or 1960s? Do you remember the first supermarket in Lichfield? Lichfield Library invites you to help the Arts Council to piece together a previously unresearched part of our national and social history.
Team Leader for local studies Scott Rosenberg said "there is currently little evidence of how the coming of the supermarket changed the experiences of shoppers across Britain between 1947 and 1975. The Reconstructing Consumer Landscapes Project is designed to explore the reactions of shoppers from different geographical regions to the supermarket. It examines how both men and women saw the supermarket."
The research is being conducted by a paper questionnaire. Scott Rosenberg continues "We are pleased to help with this research by hosting a small display and making available copies of the questionnaire along with a pre-paid self-addressed envelope at Lichfield Library until 15th June." The display will then circulate around other libraries in Staffordshire for the rest of the year.
