Council Distributes Small Grants

Twenty-two local groups are set to benefit from Lichfield District Council's Small Grants Scheme.
Lichfield District Council has announced which local groups will benefit this year from £15,000 grant, which is set to be distributed amongst 22 groups in April. A wide range of groups will receive funding, including sports and arts groups, festival organisers, community halls and more.
After applying for the grant, which involved explaining why their local group needed the extra funding, each successful applicant was told how much money they are set to receive - which is anything from £100 to £1,000.
Councillor Val Richards, Cabinet Member for Community, Housing, Health and Leisure, said: "I am delighted we can offer groups and organisations a small boost which could make a big difference to them. The Small Grants Scheme is a great way to distribute funds to local groups to help them provide important services for the community."
Phil Mayhew, Lichfield City Cycling Club Secretary, said: "We're really please to have received £700 in funding. We are putting the money towards buying a number of bikes so that we can loan them to our younger members, who may not have been able to afford a high quality bike of their own."
Sue Meehan, Burntwood Live at Home Manager, said: "We are very appreciative of the support shown to Burntwood Live at Home scheme by Lichfield District Council though their grant aid programme. This year the £1,000 funding will be used to support computer classes for people over retirement age in the Burntwood area."
