Support for Lichfield's First Local Nature Reserve

Fifty local people came along to a free fun day and consultation to support Lichfield district's first Local Nature Reserve.
On Saturday 15 March, Lichfield District Council, in partnership with North Lichfield Initiative and local wildlife groups, held a free fun day and consultation event at Christian Fields. The event brought local people together to discuss ideas for the site - set to become the district's first Local Nature Reserve.
Around fifty local residents came along to the former landfill site, where they enjoyed fun activities including a nature treasure trail, face painting and bird walks. They also learnt about local wildlife including bats, badgers, and birds from the wildlife groups who attended. Local Councillors held an outdoor surgery where they answered questions and listened to concerns residents raised about their area.
Tamara Kabat, Biodiversity Officer for Lichfield District Council, said: "The event was a great success and the support of the local community was fantastic. On the day local people filled out 25 questionnaires. Twenty-four support the Local Nature Reserve declaration, and 19 people have volunteered to help manage the site in the future. A big thanks to everyone who came along and offered their ideas and support."
The feedback from this consultation will help the Council create a management plan for the site. This will then be sent to Natural England who will tell the council their views, so they can make their final decision.
