DRIVERS URGED TO EMPTY CARS AS CROOKS TARGET VEHICLES

CAR CROOKS are targeting cars parked up at golf clubs, hotels and leisure centres, police in Trent Valley have warned.
Drivers are now being urged to be extra vigilant and make sure they take everything out their vehicles because thieves are breaking into car boots to steal high value equipment such as laptop computers.
Businesses are also being advised to step up security and ensure CCTV cameras and on-site security is working effectively.
The warning follows a spate of incidents which have seen thieves attack around a dozen cars in the Burton and Lichfield areas.
Police, who have increased high visibility patrols in the area, say thieves are targeting clubs and business premises close to busy roads such as the A38 and A5 which they use to make their get away.
A vehicle police think may have been used in some of the car crimes is a stolen, silver or grey, Vauxhall Signum, similar to the one pictured with a registration number CY 54 AVE.
Two vehicles were broken into on Tuesday (15 May) while parked at Branston Golf Club, Burton and, on the same day, crooks stole from cars parked at the nearby Bannatynes leisure centre.
On Wednesday evening (16 May), thieves broke into vehicles left at the Esporta Health club, Birmingham Road, Lichfield; the nearby Holiday Inn; the Toby Carvery, again in Birmingham Road, Lichfield and the Lodge restaurant at Shenstone Wood End.
Detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the vehicle or the car break-ins to contact them at Trent Valley CID, telephone 08453 30 20 10 or, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
