POLICE HUNT LICHFIELD SUPERMARKET CASH POINT ROBBERS

DETECTIVES hunting a gang who robbed security guards delivering cash to a Lichfield supermarket say the offenders could have been in the area the week before the raid.
The thieves struck shortly after 7am today (Tuesday 30 Oct), as the guards were preparing to re-fill a cash point at the Co-op supermarket on Boley Park.
The two male guards were threatened by three men carrying weapons and forced to hand over cash boxes. Neither security guard was injured.
The gang fled with a substantial amount of cash. They ran from the store, across the main road to Curlew Close where their getaway car, containing a fourth man, was parked. The gang was carrying a blue nylon holdall which had multi-coloured stitching around the handles.
Police are today appealing for help from anyone who may have been near the supermarket at the time of the robbery or may have seen anything suspicious in the area last week.
"These offenders may well have visited the area close to the store before, possibly on Tuesday of last week, and we would appeal for anyone who was in the area last week and who saw something suspicious, to get in touch," said Detective Inspector Darren Harding of Trent Valley CID.
The three men were all wearing masks and dark clothing.
The thieves' getaway vehicle, a silver/grey car, had been parked up in Curlew Close and detectives are appealing for help from anyone who may have seen it or any other suspicious vehicle parked nearby.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Trent Valley CID, telephone 08453 30 20 10 or, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
