Lichfield District Council's kitchen caddy giveaway hits halfway mark
Since launching the new kitchen waste collection service in August, the District Council has given away around 10,000 free caddies to households across the district. The Council had a total of 20,000 caddies to give away, to help locals collect food waste in before emptying the food waste into their brown bins alongside their garden waste, so make sure you get yours.
The recycling team has been busy promoting the new kitchen waste recycling scheme. This allows residents to put their food and kitchen waste into their brown bin so that it can be recycled. The team has taken a road show out across the district to give people recycling advice and to hand out kitchen caddies. Thousands of residents are now recycling their kitchen waste, which includes all food material, so that it can be ‘recycled' into top quality compost.
Christine Cole, Recycling Officer for Lichfield District Council, said: "It's great that so many people are becoming even greener and recycling food waste, which would otherwise be sent to landfill where it produces lots of methane as it decomposes. We're really keen for more households to start recycling their kitchen waste, and have around 10,000 caddies left to giveaway. We are also providing extra brown bins, for a small annual charge, to households that have a lot of garden and kitchen waste."
If you haven't got your free caddy yet, pop into Reception at Lichfield District Council's Frog Lane offices or Burntwood Library, Sankeys Corner.
