Knit N Natter

International Woman's Day, the event to get women together, is happening in March this year. In the lead up to the celebrations, North Lichfield Initiative is helping to coordinate a series of ‘Knit and Natter' sessions. This is so women can come together to knit wool squares, which will then be made into blankets that will be sent to rescue centres in Kenya and Ethiopia.
To help get the knitting groups going we are appealing for donations of wool - ideally in the colours of Woman's Day: purple, green, white and gold/yellow. The balls of wool can be dropped off at collection points across the district, which include: Lichfield Garrick, Oxfam on Market Street, HomeZone, Curborough Community Centre, Minster, Netherstowe and Burntwood youth centres.
Tracy Potts, North Lichfield Initiative Community Worker, who is running one of the sessions, said: "We're looking forward to all the activities taking place in honour of International Woman's Day, and hope that plenty of people come along and support us at the knitting sessions. They will be a great way to meet new people, do something for charity, and help keep a traditional craft alive. To ensure the ‘Knit and Natter' sessions are a success, we need lots of wool, so all donations are greatly appreciated."
Everyone is welcome to come along to the various ‘Knit and Natter' sessions. These will be held from 10 am to 12 noon at: The Jigsaw Shop, Dimbles Lane and the former Fazeley Local Office on Wednesday 21st February, Handsacre Methodist Church Hall on Thursday 22nd February, and The Old Mining College in Burntwood on Friday 23rd February. You can bring your own needles and wool, but there will be some spare if you need them. Also, don't worry if you can't knit a stitch, someone will be on hand to hlep you.
If you can't make it to a ‘Knit and Natter' session, you could always create one of your own groups, or simply knit a square and donate it at any one of the collection points. The wool knitted squares should be roughly 12 inches by 8 inches - so pick up some needles and get knitting.
The ‘Knit & Natter' sessions have been organised by North Lichfield Initiative, in partnership with Staffordshire Youth Services, Lichfield District Council, Friary and Netherstowe schools, Lichfield and District Council for Voluntary Services, HomeZone and local community volunteers.
