Heathland Harvest Festival

Calling all twitchers and wildlife enthusiasts: take your pick of three free guided walks to discover more about the varied wildlife habitat at Gentleshaw Common on September 23rd.
To celebrate our wonderful heathland habitat and wildlife, Lichfield District Council's Countryside Team have organised a series of free one and a half hour guided walks, so that residents and visitors can find out more about the heathland at Gentleshaw Common (Site of Special Scientific Interest).
There will be three walks throughout the day. These include a bird watching walk - led by a member of the Chasewater Wildlife Group, a mammal signs and tracking walk and a heathland walk - both led by the District Council's Countryside Team.
Tamara Kabat, Biodiversity Officer for Lichfield District Council, said: "These walks are a great opportunity to discover more about our precious heathland habitat and all the varied wildlife that live on it. You will need to book your place, and don't forget to wear outdoor clothing including sturdy footwear and a waterproof - just in case."
The walks are free, but you do need to book your place by calling the Countryside Team on 01543 308183 or emailing denice.deverall@lichfielddc.gov.uk.
Led by the Burton Conservation Volunteers, the Festival will also include scrub bashing from 10am to 4.30pm. If you want to muck in, there is no need to book - just turn up in sturdy outdoor clothes.
