To restore the Lichfield Canal and the Hatherton Canal to re-open waterway links between Staffordshire and the West Midlands, for the benefit of the environment, amenity and prosperity of the people of the Region and to enhance the nations inland waterway system.
The Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust was formed in 1988 and is a registered charity.
It campaigns for the restoration of the Lichfield Canal from Huddlesford Junction to Ogley Junction and the Hatherton Canal from Hatherton Junction to the Cannock Extension Canal.
It promotes the restoration of these canals as public amenities for boating, angling, walking, cycling etc. and raises funds to carry out physical restoration work.
Restoration work is being achieved thanks to the considerable support from volunteer groups such as the Waterway Recovery Group, and from receipt of various donations and grants.
Membership is currently just over 1600, with Single Adult Membership costing £10 per year and Family Membership £15 per year. Becoming a member helps the Trust financially and also indicates the strength of feeling towards restoring these valuable links in the national canal network.
Members receive our quarterly magazine "CUT BOTH WAYS", keeping them in touch with news, progress with restoration, work parties, social events and goods sold by our subsidiary trading company.
