English Nature Initiatives

English Nature is involved in a ground-breaking partnership between the minerals industry, local government, voluntary sector and government agencies to secure environmental improvements in south east Staffordshire.
This Partnership aims to deliver landscape and environmental improvements to a 15 mile stretch of the Rivers Trent and Tame between Burton on Trent and Tamworth. Although the area has significant pressures through industrial development, housing and quarrying, the Partners believe that there is significant potential for landscape and ecological improvement.
After developing a comprehensive strategy for the area the Partners have now employed a Project Officer, based at Lichfield District Council, to take the Initiative forward.
The National Forest covers a large part of the Central Rivers area, and is already delivering habitat improvements and extensive tree planting. The National Memorial Arboretum has its home in the heart of the Central Rivers near Alrewas.
