Construction work set to start on the new Garrick Square
Work to transform the entrance to the Lichfield Garrick and Three Spires Shopping Centre, into the new Garrick Square, is set to start later this month. The work will include removing the existing kerbs, laying new paving, planting trees, installing new seating, lighting and street furniture.
Preparatory work will start on Tuesday 26th August, ready for the construction work to start on Monday 1st September. The construction work should be completed by the beginning of November. There will be pedestrian access at all times. The project is being jointly funded by Lichfield District Council and Staffordshire County Council and will be delivered on the ground by Staffordshire County Council's highways team.
Councillor Neil Roberts, Cabinet Member for Development Services, said: "I am delighted that the transformation is about to start. The new paving and environmental improvements will create an attractive meeting place for local residents and visitors and in the future will help link the city centre with the proposed Friarsgate development. "
Councillor John Wakefield, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Sustainable Communities, said " "The partnership between Staffordshire and Lichfield councils will ensure we get maximum benefit out of co-ordinated action, complementing private sector investment, improving the street environment and enhancing the city-scape to make it an even more attractive place to visit and shop. It's about getting maximum impact - a real boost for quality of life and economic prosperity."
