Cannock Chase all set for massive celebration

Guests from across the county will be joined by Joe the Gardener and the ‘Green Man' will lead children and adults in a traditional heather dance. A special Cannock Chase cake will be cut and visitors will be offered an exclusive tour of the Shugborough gardens.
The revellers include 50 people who are also celebrating their 50th birthday this year. The 50 year olds were found by a county-wide search which took place in the spring.
The event, to be held on Tuesday 16th September, will see both wildlife experts and school children talk about Cannock Chase and what it means to them and the people of Staffordshire. The area is one of the most important natural sites in the country and is home to a vast area of plants and animals.
Keynote speakers will include Mike Taylor, Chief Executive of the National Association of AONBs, and Guy Corbett-Marshall of the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.
The celebration is the culmination of a year of events which has seen summer fetes, barn dances and art competitions held. Thousands of people have joined the celebrations organised by Cannock Chase's AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) unit demonstrating how much the Chase means to local people.
Emma Beaman, Assistant AONB Officer, said the level of interest from local people in Cannock Chase's anniversary had been overwhelming.
"We have been amazed by how many people have got involved in our events and by how much people clearly love Cannock Chase. The celebration on the 16th September is really for all those people who have helped us to mark our anniversary. We're going to have a great time!"
"The event is also a great opportunity for our 50 year olds to have an extra birthday party too!" she added.
The event will conclude with an aerial photograph of the 50 year olds at 2pm. Pritchard's, Chase Promotions, Shugborough Hall and BuzzardsValley have kindly supported the event.
