Bus travel gets smart

Lichfield District Council is reminding older and disabled residents that only Smartcard Bus Passes will be accepted on buses. The Smartcard offers people aged 60 and over and eligible disabled people even more free travel - not only does it permit free travel anytime on local bus services across Lichfield District, but also free off-peak bus travel throughout England.
Councillor Colin Greatorex, Cabinet Member for Finance, Revenues and Benefits, commented: "Anyone who has applied for a new bus pass since April will have been issued with a Smartcard, and by now all current holders of an Advantage Bus Pass should have applied for a replacement Smartcard. Our buses will no longer accept the old Advantage Bus Passes. If you still haven't got yours then don't delay as it could take up to six weeks to process!
"The new Smartcards are great as they mean that older and disabled people will be able to use their passes while visiting friends and family anywhere in England as well as to access our local services."
To qualify for a Smartcard bus pass you must be a permanent resident in the Lichfield District and either be aged 60 or over, or have an eligible disability. It entitles you to free travel anytime on buses across Lichfield District and on other partner bus services across Staffordshire. It also permits free travel on local bus services anywhere in England between 9:30am and 11pm and any time at weekends and on Bank Holidays.
