Fradley Village News - 10th October

The St Stephen's Macmillan Coffee Morning opened at 9 am in the hope of attracting young mums after they had dropped their children off at school. Sadly this ploy did not work, but those villagers who did turn up greatly enjoyed the event.
Sale of the many donated items on the bric-a-brac stall went well and PCC members served coffee and tea with a batch of irresistible cakes and conversation.
June Hadleigh won a hamper packed with goodies with ticket 21 and, as she was one of those who did a ‘coffee morning marathon' by visiting all three local Macmillan events at Fradley, Fradley Junction and Alrewas, she well deserved it. Barbara Claverley won a tin of Quality Street with ticket no 34.
£116.40 was earned in total - £95 at the event and an additional £26.40 in donations.
The organisers would like to thank all those who were unable to come but who gave donations instead, including the Council refuse collector who popped in but couldn't stay because it was Friday, and he had an important job to do.
The Kingfisher Café's event raised £1,230, which owner Jim Collins says is their best yet. They had an excellent turnout and a bit of fun too. He wishes to thank everyone who came, including many locals as well as regular café customers.
New school buildings
Staffordshire County Council's Stuart Lane has been told by the architects who are working on this scheme that the planning application should be lodged in the next few weeks, after they have received the results from a survey,
The completion date for the project is set for July/August 2009, ready for the new intake of children in September 2009.
Due to the length of the consultation process, the timetable of September 2008 for completion of the works was not achievable, so in the meantime a large room at the rear of the school that was previously used for storage has been refurbished into a temporary teaching room until the new classrooms become available.
The chimney from the old school building had been promised by the LEA's project manager and architect to the Fradley people. It was intended that it should be auctioned at the Harvest Supper, with all proceeds going to the village. This promise has, however, not yet been fulfilled, a fact which is causing some concern to those who cared deeply about the ancient schoolhouse.
Overgrown verges
The Highways Agency recently sent someone out to look at the neglected area around The Moor and Old Hall Lane and promised to cut back the nettles etc during the next two weeks.
If this does not happen, concerned residents should telephone CLARENCE (Staffordshire's Customer Lighting and Roads Enquiry Centre) on 0800 232323, to continue to push them on the issue.
Fradley Players
Tickets for Fradley Players' next production, two short situation comedies written by Victoria Wood, to be performed between October 28-30, are now available from the Post Office. The tickets cost £10, which includes a fish and chip supper.
Also, the Players are still looking for additional backstage help. If you can offer such help, please ring Mary Bennett on 01283 790219.
Scouts Quiz
There are still some tickets available for Fradley Scouts' quiz night, to be held at 7 pm on Friday October 17 in Fradley Village Hall. Teams should consist of 4-6 people.
The tickets for what promises to be a very enjoyable evening (judging by last year's) cost £5 per person, to include pie and chips, and are available from Fradley Post Office.
Parish Council
The next council meeting will be on Monday 13th October at Alrewas Village Hall, at 7.30 pm. From 7pm, residents can talk to parish councillors and view planning applications prior to the meeting.
Councillors will also be available to meet residents to discuss council-related issues at the Parish Council Surgery at the Crown Inn, Alrewas, between 11am and 12 noon on Saturday, October 11.
Minutes, monthly accounts and planning applications will be available to view.
New police number
Staffordshire Police has recently launched a new non-emergency telephone number on which the public can contact its officers, including those at Lichfield and Chasetown. It is 0300 123 4455.
