Raj Mahal

With a nip in the air, Charlotte and I left the pub, and swiftly walked the short distance to Raj Mahal. Recently taken over my Akik, who already successfully runs a restaurant in Birmingham - we were welcomed at the door and led to our table. Service with a smile! We sat down to enjoy our evening meal at a nice big table with comfortable leather chairs.
After a little time to peruse the menu, armed already with a plate of popadoms and sauces, Charlotte plumped for a stuffed pepper starter served with a side salad whilst I went for the more traditional Onion Bhajis. Both starters were ample in size and particularly tasty. Choosing our mains however had been a little more difficult purely due to the extensive range of dishes on offer. Not only were there the more familiar traditional specialities, balti's and biryanis on offer but there was also a wide selection of chefs specials and eastern fusion dishes.
Charlotte couldn't resist the chef's special of Murgi Mossala, an Indian wedding feast dish comprising of barbequed Chicken with minced lamb in a medium hot sauce. She was amazed not only by the portion size, but also with the generous piece of chicken and depth of flavour. I on the other hand chose a more traditional dish of Mixed Vegetable Biryanis which was attractively served and one of the most pleasant Biryanis I have tasted in recent years; a fine balance of mixed vegetables and traditional spices without being overpowering.
This delightful meal was rounded off with an Irish coffee which was just what was needed to prepare us for the bitter winter chill outside.
Throughout the evening the service was excellent, with the waiter getting that delicate balance just right between providing a service and allowing you to enjoy the meal and the company you are in. We left the restaurant happy, full and armed with a takeaway menu - which I'm sure will be used in the future!

Would we return? Yes I'm sure we will and we will certainly be using it for takeaways
Would we change anything? The ambience could have been improved by some dimmed lighting and a little more decoration on the walls.
