Junior Triathlon

Friary Grange Leisure Centre is challenging young athletes, aged 8 to 16, to put on their goggles, trainers and cycle shorts and sign up for the Junior Triathlon, taking place on Sunday 24 August, from 9am.The race is to celebrate the handover of the Olympic Torch from Beijing to London. As well as the Junior Triathlon, Friary Grange, Burntwood and King Edward VI Leisure Centres will offer free swimming, badminton, squash and tennis courts to everybody. So if you don't fancy competing, but just want to try your hand at a new sport, come along on Sunday 24 August and take advantage of the fun activities on offer.
The triathlon will start with a swim in Friary Grange Leisure Centre's swimming pool, and then a cycle and run around the leisure centre's grounds - distances will depend on age. Cycle helmets must be worn for the cycle section. The race will be split into age groups - 8 years old, 9 - 10 years old, 11 - 12 years old, 13 - 14 years old and 15 - 16 years olds.
Mark Wheeler, event organiser, said: "The Junior Triathlon is a great opportunity to test your own ability, as well as race against some of the best amateur athletes around. Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place in each age group. So if you want to take part, make sure we receive your completed application form before Sunday 17 August."
The race costs £9 if you book before 27 July (£8 for British Triathlon Association Member) or £11 after (£10 for British Triathlon Association Member).
