Saddlers Wood Set for New Play Area

During March, work will take place to replace the existing, well used playground in Saddlers Wood, the popular park situated between Burton Old Road East and Roman Way, with a larger, more attractive play area.
The new playground has been commissioned from the Children's Playground Company and will be made up of swings, a wooden climbing unit, a fort and walkway for the children, as well as carved wooden benches for mum and dad. The play area will be surrounded by a willow fence, making it a secure space for children to enjoy, and in keeping with the wooded park, which is part of Lichfield District Council's woodland management project.
Cllr Neil Roberts, Cabinet Member for Development Services, said: "The new play equipment looks fantastic, and we know local children will have lots of fun playing on it when it's open to the public in the spring. There will be some disruption while the new area is constructed, but we have timed the work so that the playground will be ready for children to enjoy as the weather improves."
All the play equipment is made from Robinia Wood, which is harder than Oak, and is especially environmentally friendly as it doesn't require any preservative in its preparation. The Children's Playground Company is also endorsed by The Forest Stewardship Council, which recognises products that support the growth of responsible forest management worldwide.
