The Lichfield Garrick is delighted to welcome the Ralph Allin Quintet in this evening of pure musical magic, presented by Angela Rippon.
A Portrait of Stephane Grappelli is an exciting and entertaining concert capturing the style and showmanship of the master of Jazz, who's inspiration and musical influence helped shape today's Jazz music.
The production features some of Grappelli's most familiar Jazz standards and compositions with anecdotes from his life, as remembered by musicians who have performed with him over the decades.
Ralph Allin is the country's leading Jazz violinist with the remarkable ability to reflect the well known essence and style of Grappelli. Over the past few years, the Ralph Allin Quintet has had a great impact throughout the country and they are now firmly established on the Jazz scene. Ralph is also a fanatic of gypsy violin and his award winning debut album was the inspiration behind his current highly acclaimed CD 'I Got Rhythm'.
The Ralph Allin Quintet perform a wonderful programme of the music associated with Grappelli, whilst adding their own elements with passionate Gypsy and fiery Latin influence.
Favourites include ‘I Got Rhythm' - Stephane's 'lucky' tune, ‘Nuages' - special memories of Django, ‘Dark Eyes' - Gypsy/Swing, ‘Tea For Two', ‘Oh Lady Be Good' - Gershwin, ‘Ain't MisBehavin' - Fat's Favourite, ‘Sweet Georgia Brown', ‘La Vie En Rose' and many more.
