AMBULANCE SERVICE TO CO-OPERATE WITH HEALTHCARE INQUIRY

Published: 29th January 2007 10:05

Staffordshire Ambulance Service said today they would continue to cooperate fully with the Healthcare Commission's forthcoming investigation into the clinical and managerial procedures at the Trust.

The Commission, the independent inspection body for the NHS, announced today that it would be undertaking an investigation to establish whether the Trust has adequate systems and processes in place to ensure the safety of patients.

Management and staff at all levels within the Trust will cooperate in the investigation so that it can be reassured that it is delivering the highest possible standards of care to its patients and that correct clinical and legal clinical procedures are adhered to.

The Trust has already responded to some of the known concerns and taken action to address these, and this progress will continue to be monitored by NHS West Midlands.  The Trust will continue to implement these improvements whilst the investigation is underway.

The investigation will be discussed at the Trusts Board meeting on Friday 26 January.

Chairman, Robert Lake commented:

We take every concern raised about our service very seriously.  We are totally committed to ensuring that patients across Staffordshire receive the best possible ambulance service and we will be working with all our key partners to make sure that the outcome of the investigation leads to further improvements.

We hope that our patients, the public and our staff will contribute to the investigation, which will help us to continue making improvements for the people of Staffordshire.
