The Lichfield Garrick is delighted to present a brand new Viennese Gala concert to launch the 2008 season in style.
This picturesque presentation recreates the romance and nostalgia of the Viennese Festive season and introduces the audience to a bygone age of glamorous soirée's and Strauss waltzes. With highlights from some of the great operettas of Strauss, Kalman and Lehar, including ‘Die Fledermaus', ‘The Merry Widow' and many more.
This splendid show which has received rave reviews and delighted audiences all over the country is performed by soloists from the major British Opera companies; including Opera North, English National Opera and D'oyly Carte.
Sparkling British soprano soloist Anthea Kempston will perform alongside three exceptional artists in beautiful costumes of the period. Having trained at the Royal Academy of Music, London, Anthea has sung with the BBC Philharmonic, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the Northern Chamber Orchestra. Joining Anthea is British tenor, Francis Church. Francis trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, winning the Verdi Prize at the National Mozart Competition and Scottish Opera's John Noble competition.
Performing alongside Anthea and Francis are two successful Bulgarian Opera singers, soprano Lyuba Nakova Trayanova, and Tenor Iliyan Nedev, together with Petya Miroleskova on Lead Violin. Petya has played with the New Symphony Orchestra and the National Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed in concerts with Maxim Wengerov, Nigel Kennedy and Sholmo Mintz.
These extremely talented lead singers are complimented by the European Orchestral Ensemble, supervised by musical director Matthew Freeman. Matthew enjoys an extensive career as an arranger, conductor and pianist. Most recently he has arranged and conducted a rock classic album for the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and he arranged music for the film ‘Gladiator'.
The beautifully crafted production is cleverly choreographed, tastefully costumed and magnificently sung and gives the audience an authentic feel of a festive Viennese evening, and appeals to the romantic as much as the music aficionado and has already proved very popular all over the country.
