Summer Courses 2007
Lichfield School of Art's Summer School for 2007 offers a variety of courses, taught by experienced tutors and practitioners - painting, life drawing, trompe l'oeil painting, portrait sculpture and casting, and two courses unique to Lichfield, in calligraphy, and lettering and decoration which draw inspiration from the St Chad Gospels and Lichfield Cathedral.
Lichfield School of Art is situated in the heart of this cathedral city, on the leafy campus which is shared by Staffordshire University and Tamworth and Lichfield College.
Portrait Sculpture
Tutor: Karen Bird
Model in clay a person, from photographs or a model. This 3 day intensive course includes demonstrations an analytical approach to portrait sculpture.
Dates 23-25 July
Fee £195
Casting a Portrait Head
Tutor: Karen Bird
Make a waste-mould of a portrait head modelled in clay, and a cast in Ciment Fondue. This may be mounted and finished.

Introduction to Trompe L'Oeil Painting
Tutor: Michael Potter
A 5 day course, introducing to the fundamentals of trompe l'oeil painting, and providing with, by example and instruction, some essential practical know-how and technique.

Life Drawing
Tutor: David Walton
This course aims to widen the student's understanding of life drawing, increasing their observational skills and equipping them with some of the techniques of analysis of their practice.

Painting as Process
Tutor: David Culshaw
A 3 day course during which students will start by becoming familiar with some simple techniques in 'Photoshop', enabling them to manipulate their own images in the development of visual ideas.

Calligraphy - modern links to the St Chad Gospel
Tutor: Peter Halliday
This 3 day course will be for anyone interested in the history and techniques of the early medieval period and/or those who wish to learn about modern versions of historical calligraphic writing.

Lettering & decoration in Lichfield Cathedral
Tutor: Peter Halliday
This course is for both those interested in lettering and calligraphy, and for those who may find a use for this rich source of historical forms in any creative way.
