The NSPCC is urging people to get on their bikes and do their bit to help end cruelty to children.
The charity is looking for volunteers to organise and take part in bike rides in Staffordshire as part of their Big Bike Ride fundraising drive, which takes place over the weekend of 29 June - 1 July 2007.
Julie du Plessis, community fundraising manager for the county, has organised a Big Bike Ride that anyone can join which will take place on Sunday 1 July at Cannock Chase.
People can design their own circuit and go from just one to 19 miles on the Leisure Route, taking in the Fairoak Valley and the heathland of Sherbrook Valley as they wind through the wide forest tracks.
More experienced bikers can tackle a seven mile single-track route which winds through the trees in the Fairoak Valley.
Both rides will take place between 11am and 3pm within Cannock Chase.
This year the NSPCC aim to raise £300,000 from Big Bike Ride events to help make a difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in the UK. The money will go towards funding the charity's 180 projects, including three in Staffordshire.
People can devise their own route with friends and family regardless of age, fitness or ability.
The NSPCC's community fundraising manager for Staffordshire, Julie du Plessis, said: "It doesn't matter if you are two or 82, the Big Bike Ride is fun for everyone.
"Rides can be a simple circuit around a park or a more challenging route and people can even do it on an exercise bike at the gym.
"Anyone is welcome to join our ride organised for Cannock Chase and it will be a fun day out."
She added: "For many children a lack of love and support and years of abuse and neglect have a significant impact on their confidence and self esteem, making it harder for them to achieve their full potential.
"To achieve our goal of ending the cruelty, neglect and abuse of children we need the public's help as we simply cannot do this alone. I urge everyone to get involved and help make a difference.
"All the money raised from the Big Bike Ride will help make a difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in the Midlands as 85 per cent of the charity's income comes from donations and fundraising."
