Whittington Wartime Weekend

On Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of July 2007 a grand 1940s and World War Two display will be occurring with many military vehicles including an original German Marder tank or self propelled gun supported by an armoured half-track, jeeps, motorcycles and other light vehicles. Jeep rides may also be available.
The grounds adjacent to Whittington Barracks will be well populated by over 100 re-enactors and their camps demonstrating the fighting soldiers of many of the combatant nations. Visitors will be able to view and discuss any aspects of the defining conflict of the 20th Century with these knowledgeable enthusiasts.
The days highlight will be a mock battle in which airborne forces of Britain and America take on the armoured might of the Wehrmacht. Lighter interludes will be provided by the Moonlight Serenaders and displays on the Home front so have your plucky islander spirit and stiff upper lips at the ready!
Collectors will be able to browse the militaria trade stands and the Staffordshire Regiment Museum shop which stocks books, prints, souvenirs and confectionary. Teas and light refreshments will be available.
Gates open at 10 am. Event finishes at 4.30pm. Prices £6 adults, £3 all concessions. The event is off the A51 between Lichfield and Tamworth.
