FINAL CALL TO ‘GET IN AND SWIM'
| Published: 2nd March 2007 15:07 |

This year's national Swimathon is aiming to get over 20,000 people to ‘Get in and Swim' at 600 pools nationwide, including Burntwood Leisure Centre, to raise money to support the work of Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation.
Paul Watson, Manager of Burntwood Leisure Centre, said: "Loads of people are already registered to take part in this year's Swimathon, but there's room for some more. If you want to join in the fun, there's still time to register for one of the challenges, or visit www.swimathon.org and sponsor someone from the district who is already taking part."
Olympic gold medallist Duncan Goodhew, MBE who has supported Swimathon since its inception 21 years ago offers the following last minute advice for people still wishing to register: "There is still time rise to the challenge of Swimathon 2007 and to train for a swim. I would advise people to gradually increase their distance and train every few days.
Swimathon is open to everyone, swimmers can set their own personal challenge at the ultimate 5K challenge, which requires at least six weeks of training; the 2.5K, for the intermediate swimmer; and the 1.5K, for anyone who swims occasionally. Or if you prefer to do it all at your own pace, join the Simply Swim challenge, which allows you to cover any distance at any participating pool, any time.
Register now at www.swimathon.org where you can also find more information about your local participating pools, fundraising, and training tips. Or call the Swimathon hotline on 0845 36 700 36. Standard registration is £8.50 (concessions £4.50). For more information on Burntwood Leisure Centre visit www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/blc or call 01543 308810.
