Trevor James - Liberal Democrat
Trevor James is a professional historian who has lived in Lichfield for over twenty years. He is well known for his involvement in local church, sporting and community organisations. He has previous experience as a councillor in Blaby and the Amber Valley. He has has also assisted in the leadership of local residents groups. At the top of Trevor's priority list are environmental protection, conservation, ‘Fairtrade' and ensuring that there are adequate and appropriate local facilities and leisure opportunities for everyone. ‘Local government should provide better value for money whilst being more responsive to, and respectful of, the voters which it represents.

Liberal Democrat candidate for St John's ward
I am recently retired, qualified as management accountant and worked for most of my career in the shipping industry.
Following retirement I moved to Lichfield last year to be closer to family, having lived for the previous 30 years in Bexleyheath, Kent
For 7 years to 1992 I was a councillor in London Borough of Bexley and also have wide experience helping voluntary groups. I first became a Bexley councillor to help a successful residents campaign against a motorway proposal and continued to work for the local area until the pressure of combining work and council duties forced me to step down. Now free of work commitments I am looking to be of service to my new neighbourhood.
It is important that the development of the city is carefully controlled to preserve the historic character of Lichfield. While it is true that local councils powers are heavily limited by central government there is much more that should be done.
We shall insist on a tighter financial régime with a greater focus on essential services and oppose prestige projects which have depleted reserves.
Housing in the District is prohibitively expensive. Many first time buyers are forced to look for homes elsewhere. Liberal Democrats (for example in South Shropshire) operate successful policies for the provision of up to 50% of new build to be affordable homes, to buy or rent. In rural communities, such a policy can contribute to the viability of local shops, pubs, schools and churches. We will argue for the adoption of similar policies here.
Lichfield Liberal Democrats have published their manifesto on their web site www.lichfieldlibdems.org.uk/ if you would like more details.

Ronald Lewis - Liberal Democrat
Ron Lewis (01543 317448) has lived in Lichfield for nearly 40 years and has been involved in it's social, cultural and sporting life all this time. For many years, he has been active in the work of local residents' groups A chartered town planner all his working life, he has a strong interest in the environment and devolving as much decision making as possible from Whitehall. He has many years experience of local government. Ron believes we must care much better for the older and work harder to recover family values. He is a liberal democrat because he considers they are more in line with people's aspirations than the other parties. Fairness for all but more control over their own lives.Locally, if elected, he will fight for protection of our historic centre and limited growth in the city. If necessary, extra housing should be directed to Fradley, related to it's expanding industry.
