8th May - Are you active in your community?

It may be that if you are a volunteer or an employee involved in working with communities you may have been looking to develop a career in community development.
At the University of Derby a successful Foundation Degree in Community Regeneration and Development has been running for several years. This Programme helps students to learn more about how to develop skills in community development work and be more effective in supporting communities to tackle local issues. It helps with understanding more about:
• communities, how they work and how to get things done
• doing something about the issues people in communities are concerned about
• making a difference in communities
The programme is designed to help students develop skills and knowledge of working in communities. They use their experience of working with communities to develop an understanding of community development work and to gain a recognised qualification.
The course has an excellent success rate and is valued by both students and employers throughout the community development and voluntary sectors. Students who have completed the course have either found paid work, if they were previously volunteers, or progressed in their careers moving to new areas of responsibility in community development work.
