Trees of Cathedral Close Walk
Free guided walk with refreshments on Wednesday 7 May from 11am to 12 noon
Lichfield District Council's Countryside Team, along with Lichfield Wildlife Group and Lichfield Walk and Talk group, invite you to join them for a gentle stroll around Cathedral Close, Minster Pool and Garden of Remembrance.
Gareth Hare, Lichfield District Council's Arboricultural Officer who is leading the walk, said: "The trees within the Cathedral Close form one of Lichfield's most important treescapes. This walk is an opportunity to discuss the trees and the habitats they provide for wildlife, whilst being able to admire them close up."
This walk replaces the walk scheduled to take place on April 30. To come along, you will need to book your free place by calling the Council's Countryside Team on 01543 308183.
This walk forms part of a Heritage Lottery Fund ‘Awards for All' project awarded to the Lichfield Wildlife Group. The project aims to survey the flora and fauna of Cathedral Close and Lichfield Cathedral School. The results will be turned into a management plan for the area and associated information leaflets.
So far, the survey project has investigated trees, wildflowers, mammals, insects, fungi, lichens, spiders, and millipedes. Other upcoming events are a Dawn Chorus Bird Walk on May 7 and a Bat Survey on May 16. A final report on the results of the project will be presented on May 21.
