The Victorians meet the Vikings

On Sunday the 9th of September 2007 The Staffordshire Regiment Museum will be hosting displays by the Mercian Guard Viking re-enactment group and the 19th Foot Crimean War re-enactment group. Interest in the ancient kingdom of Mercia has been rekindled with the formation of the Mercian Regiment from what was the Staffordshire Regiment, The Cheshire Regiment and the Worcester & Sherwood Foresters Regiment. It was the lessons of the Crimean War that led to the Cardwell reforms of the army which set in place the association of counties to regiments that we have seen up until the current changes.
This is in addition to the Annual Reunion on Saturday the 8th of September when the museum and grounds will be open to the public as well as Regimental Association members with band music, a beer tent and other attractions in addition to the re-enactment displays.
Gates open at 10 am and displays start at 11 am. Event finishes at 4.30pm. Prices £2.50 adults, £5 family tickets, £1.50 concessions £1 children.
