Community Minded People Receive Awards

Published: 7th September 2007 12:27

Four community-minded people collected their awards at a special presentation which took part during this summer's Proms in the Park on Saturday 1st September

Since January, lots of people have been busy pledging to make Lichfield district an even better place to be - as part of the county-wide community pride campaign to make Staffordshire cleaner, greener and safer. To celebrate those who made an extra special effort, Lichfield District Council held a special Community Pride Awards Presentation at this year's Proms in the Park.

Councillor Janet Eagland, Chairman of Lichfield District Council, presented three awards to the Community Pride Pledge winners. The categories included the best pledge by a group, an individual and a child (under 16). All the winners received a Community Pride Award certificate and a prize.

The winner of the best pledge by a group was Oscar's After School Club, who organised a week of community pride activities including a biscuit bake for the elderly. Play leader Sue Southall, who accepted the award on Oscar's behalf, said: "It was such a surprise to win this award. I am delighted to collect it on behalf of all the staff and children at Oscar's. It was a team effort."

The best pledge by an individual went to Bernard Brown for his commitment to the community of Burntwood. And finally, the best pledge by a child went jointly to David Morris-Samuels (age 6) and Ben Marshall (age 5) who created a colourful picture showing all the things they love about Lichfield.

Councillor Janet Eagland, Chairman of Lichfield District Council, said: "We're thrilled lots of people have embraced Community Pride, and have shown so much dedication to making Lichfield District even better. Congratulations to all the winners, and a big thank you to everyone who is working towards Community Pride."
