Lichfield boasts some fine names of past times. Samuel Johnson, writer and racontuer, Erasmus Darwin, grandfather of Charles and a great inventor and David Garrick, actor-manager of the 18th century. Our fine theatre is now named after David and you can visit museums dedicated to Samuel and Erasmus. Did you know that when Johnson returned from his trips to London he stayed in the Three Crowns Inn in Breadmarket Street?

Our market square once saw stocks and the scold's bridle in 1153. Even 1651, saw George Fox have a premonition the city streets flowing with blood. He wandered crying "Woe to the bloody city of Lichfield" The Heritage Centre shows a commemorative painting and also celebrates its 25th Silver Jubilee this year.
