Youngsters giving skipping a go!
Last Wednesday was National Playday and hundreds of local children got involved as part of this year's Summer Play Programme, organised by Lichfield District Council. This year's theme was 'Give us a go!' and, to celebrate the day, children challenged themselves to try out new sports and improve their skills. From perfecting their hoola hoop, to sharpening their football skills, to spinning basketballs on their fingers, 350 children had a great day.Mary Cooke, Play Development Manager at Lichfield District Council, said: "Loads of children got involved and tried out a whole range of sporting activities. The children's challenge was to perfect their skills and see a marked improvement in their sporting performance before the end of the day. From comparing the number of times they could skip, to how many times they could spin a hoola hoop, to how skilfully they could dribble a ball around a course, everyone involved gave it a go!"
Children with their certificates! Twenty youngsters at one of the playschemes, which takes place Curborough Community Centre, took up the challenge and were presented with a certificate to recognise their sporting achievements.
