MILITARY CROSS STOLEN ON REMEMBRANCE DAY

POLICE in Staffordshire are hunting callous thieves who broke into a house and stole a Military Cross awarded to a first world war hero.
The theft happened over the weekend as Remembrance Day celebrations were happening across the country.
An image of the stolen Military Cross Thieves broke into the house in Deepmore Close, Alrewas, near Lichfield and stole the medal together family jewellery and a 42 inch television.
The Military Cross was awarded to the current owner's father in law who was a sergeant in the King's Liverpool Regiment.
He was awarded the honour after crossing enemy lines to save a wounded colleague in July 1918.
It has been a treasured possession ever since after being handed down through the family.
Police are urging anyone who may be offered a Military Cross to contact them. Officers think it may be offered to a collector or a second hand dealer.
"This was a callous theft which as left the family devastated," said PC Wayne Rogers of the Trent Valley Division of Staffordshire Police.
"The medal is only given for exceptional acts of bravery and I would appeal for anyone with information about the theft to contact police as a matter of urgency."

Calls to Crimestoppers are free from landlines and callers do not have to leave their name or give any information which may identify them
People giving information may be able to claim a reward for the arrest and conviction of offenders.
