Two football coaches from Lichfield have been awarded the title of ‘Coach of the Year' by Staffordshire County F.A. for their work with disabled children.
Wayne Thurstance and Lesley Makin from Whittington F.C. were nominated by F.A. officials, players and parents in recognition of their work in setting up and running a monthly soccer centre for local children with disabilities and special needs.
Both are F.A. qualified disability coaches and are part of a team that run the indoor sessions at King Edwards Leisure Centre in Lichfield. The training is provided free of charge thanks to grant support from Lichfield District Council and local County Councillor Matthew Ellis, and takes place on the last Saturday of every month at 2-4pm in the sports hall.
Whittington F.C. is one of only 300 F.A. approved Community Clubs in the UK and offers a wide range of football activities for boys & girls aged 5-16, and adults. It is the fourth year running that the Club has won an award at the annual F.A. ceremony.
