Cars in the Park' is an annual event, organized and run by the Rotary Club of Lichfield St Chad in aid of the charitable causes supported by the Club. The event has grown from a very modest start 11 years ago, to now being recognized as one of the most important Classic Vehicle gatherings in the country, and it is certainly the most attended event in the Midlands classic car diary.
Cars in the Park is held every July in the beautiful surroundings of Beacon Park right in the middle of the City of Lichfield.
This year it is anticipated that there will be well over 1000 classic and historic cars and other vehicles. The range has also been broadened to include, Buses, Trucks and the underlying theme for the parades on both days will be Cars, Cops and Criminals.
The event will be a great day out for all the family, no matter what the age. There will be on display - from private owners and classic car clubs a very broad array of classic vehicles right across the spectrum, and from all eras - vintage right through to modern classics. There will be displays in the main arena from various classic car clubs, and when this is not happening there will be arena presentations by such organizations as the Staffordshire Fire Service, who will be demonstrating amongst other things their amazing car passenger rescue techniques, and a display of dog agility training, performed by the South Staffordshire Dog Training organization. There will also be a ‘pod' from the County Air Ambulance on display.
There will also be in displays of new cars from a number of local main motor dealerships - Vauxhall, Proton, Hyundai, BMW/Mini, Mazda, Jaguar, Ford, Citroen, Skoda and Suzuki. The event will feature a special ‘Concourse' event, attracting some of the finest quality classic vehicles in the country. This will take place on Sunday 6th July and will be judged by the well respected Concourse Judge Guy Worrall.
Two of the most famous Midlands car manufacturers from the past - the Rover (Sports) Register and the Avenger & Sunbeam Owners Club - have decided to hold their National Rallies at the Cars in the Park event this year, and we anticipate a very high turnout of a range of models of these two outstanding makes of vehicles. The Motor & Allied Trades Benevolent Fund - BEN - will be attending and promoting their ‘volunteer' scheme.
There will also be a wide selection of non motor trade stalls - for those members of the family not interested in cars to browse around. Full details of the event, and a superb selection of photographs of the vehicles that have attended the event over the past few years can be seen on our website: www.carsinthepark.com
