If you want advice on tracing your ancestors come to the Family and Local History Fair at the Ancient High House. Members of family history societies from Staffordshire and Shropshire will be on hand to help you, as well as representatives from Staffordshire Record Office.

Hi! You made it! We're really thrilled you did! You see we're really passionate about LOCAL STUFF! What do we mean? Well, in our ever busy lives we don't always have the time to pay attention to what's happening in our local communities - let alone get involved with worthwhile issues, get to know about fun events on our doorsteps, or go anyway to building a sense of, well, belonging-ness!
And that's where we come in!
We want AboutMyArea to be YOUR first choice for ALL things local. We've started building the site already with things that we think you'll love - and there's going to be lots more added continually (I know there's some pages that are under construction - but we're filling up quickly, remember to check back in regularly) - but we'd love to HEAR FROM YOU!
How can you get involved?
You can get involved in loads of ways (and if you don't, we might tell your Mum!)
Become a Registered User (Er, all this means is clicking here and telling us who you are, but it sounds grand doesn't it!) This means you can post comments on articles, and rate your visits to local places where there are our (rather good fun!) Surveys - and all your comments and ratings are passed back to the business in question (So, Sharon on Aisle 3 - your days are numbered......) We promise to look after your details, and won't do anything naughty with them (or you can tell our Mums!) and you can choose to get our regular Newsletter so that you get told about all the exciting things on offer
Become a Contributor - Nothing too complicated about this one! If you've got something you want to share with everyone, you can write a Review, tell us about an event you're organising, or have a regular slot (Oooh, like Gardener's Question Time....) Maybe you run a dance class, know a lot about local history or just really enjoyed the latest Gatehouse Theatre's production and want to share....Drop us a line, and we can post your content up on to the site! Hurrah!
Become a Sub-Editor - now that really is grand! As a Sub-Editor you'd have access directly to the site (subject to you signing an agreement promising to be very responsible!) and would be able to post direct content. So maybe you want to report on your local footabll team's latest amazing win, or perhaps you're a local politician or an MP who'd like a forum to talk directly to people about policies you believe in - or you could work for the police or rescue services and want to keep people informed of local issues. Either way, contact us - we'd be super pleased to get your input!
Local Businesses
This site is supported by local businesses (and some national) and aims to give them a way to really get their message across to their community. Who are they and what do they do? Please take a look at the directory of local businesses and support them whenever you can. (Ok, so there's not much in there at the moment - but bear with us - we only launched today!)
