Eccleshall is an old, picturesque and popular market town with a wealth of activity. The area around it is largely agricultural and this is reflected in the annual Eccleshall Show, which has a sizeable equestrian section as well as many other livestock and country skills events. Just the other side of the River Sow,which crosses north of the town, and a little to the west is Eccleshall Castle, a moated and fortified 13th Century mansion house.
