YOUNG PEOPLE HELP SHAPE POLICING

Young people in Felixstowe are having an active role in shaping policing priorities in the town - and have identified underage drinking as a key priority for the summer months.
Felixstowe Safer Neighbourhood Teams hold regular meetings with community representatives to talk about the issues that are of most concern to residents and as part of this young people from the Youth Forum have become involved - giving their views on what concerns them most and what they think policing priorities should be.
Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs) were set up to listen to the concerns of members of the public and to bring various agencies, including police and councils, together to work towards solving problems. This can include everything from parking and littering to crime and anti-social behaviour.
Following previous gatherings where the anti-social use of motorcycles was raised as an issue, the latest meeting saw young people highlighting underage drinking as being a concern in the town and police will now work to target areas that have been highlighted as having a problem.
Action could include extra police patrols, checks with trading standards and work with other agencies, such as health, to address alcohol related anti-social behaviour.
