The Rt Hon John Gummer welcomes new Project and Marketing Officer Charlotte Grant to the Felixstowe Learning Alliance
An innovative new alliance has recently been formed which is dedicated to raising aspiration and achievement amongst young people in Felixstowe. The Felixstowe Learning Alliance which is chaired by the local Member of Parliament, the Rt Hon John Gummer, is a collaboration between Suffolk County Council, Felixstowe based schools, local industry, University Campus Suffolk and the University of Cambridge.
The aim of the new learning alliance is to improve outcomes for young people by promoting a smooth transition through the school system onto further and higher education, whilst also making them aware of the exciting career opportunities available within local industry.
The committee was originally the brainchild of Mr Gummer and the Director of Children and Young Peoples' Services at Suffolk County Council, Rosalind Turner. Mr Gummer said ‘Felixstowe is an exciting and growing town that deserves the best of educational opportunity. This is what the Felixstowe Learning Alliance will seek to foster.'
To help implement the work of the Felixstowe Learning Alliance, a Project and Marketing Officer, Charlotte Grant, has recently been appointed. Having spent the last year working for University Campus Suffolk, Charlotte will now be devising a programme to raise aspiration in liaison with the schools and local industry. As well as supporting the work of the Alliance as a whole, she will also be setting up a website to act as both an information point about the alliance and a resource for recruiting employees to the area. Charlotte is delighted to take up her new post and said ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for me to work in an area which I feel very passionate about. I am thoroughly looking forward to helping take this project forwards.'
The Felixstowe Learning Alliance also welcomes new members Rob Cawley, who took up the post of Headteacher at Deben High School at the beginning of term, and Clemency Cooper, the new Higher Education Access Officer for Pembroke and St. Catharine's Colleges, Cambridge.
