SAVE FELIXSTOWE COUNTRYSIDE
| Published: 28th July 2008 15:11 |
Save Felixstowe Countryside is a non-political organisation comprising various individulas from across the political specturm, from all walks of life and from across Felixstowe Town. Their aim is to preserve Felixstowe Countryside, including the fields of Walton, for the benefit of local residents, tourists and future generations.
They have been urging people to attend a meeting on 4th August. This is what they had to say:
"The meeting will be held in public but the public will NOT be able to take part other than for a short period at the start of the meeting. The Task Group agenda and papers will be available on the SCDC web site on 25th July 2008. These will set out all the issues and arguments involved in the consideration of each option. The front page of our website will provide a link to the SCDC website for the agenda and papers for ease/convenience.
Location: Elizabeth Orwell Hotel, Felixstowe
When: 4th August starting at 9.30 am (Booked from 9.00 am)
This is a changed venue from the original Woodbridge venue. For each option, only 1 member of public representing the whole of Felixstowe will be permitted to speak for 3 minutes to put forward public views. How those for and against will be able to put forward their views through this person is unclear.
Landowners, developers or their representatives will be invited to speak as will local town and parish councils and local Ward Distric Councillors on as many options as they choose.
The responses provided by the public give a clear message. Will they botheor to read them? A full copy of an explanatory letter from Hilary Hanslip sent to all respondents is available on our web site. The letter states there are 5/6 options suggesting that none of the alternatives put forward in the consultation by members of the public will be considered.
Come along and listen to the opinions and views of the many Felixstowe residents who took the trouble to submit responses be supported (or not) by their duly elected councillors. Perhaps Conservatives will railroad option 4 again despite Mr Cameron's clear stance on the Countryside? Re-iterate your views to your councillor on how you wish them to represent you and speak on your behalf and observe if they do or not.
Forthcoming Unitary Authorities will mean less councillor seats available and thus greater competition. Undoubtedly many councillors participating in this LDF meeting will be hoping to get seats on the Unitary Authority. Make sure you elect someone with a proven track record of representing YOUR views when the time comes!"
