Have you ever wondered about the roles of all the various Councils? Well hopefully we can help.
SUFFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL
As their name suggests, they supply services for the whole County. These include:
- Archeological Services;
- Children's Centres;
- Care of the Environment;
- Economic Development (Shared with Suffolk Coastal District Council);
- Education/Schools;
- Fire and Rescue Services;
- Removing the County's Waste;
- Libraries;
- Protecting the Public from Unsafe Goods and Unfair Trading Practices - Trading Standards;
- Public Transport;
- Registrars Services (Births, Deaths and Marriages);
- Road Safety;
- Sports and Cultural Facilities/Development;
- Social Care (Adults and Children with Physical/Learning/Mental Health Difficulties. Residential/Nursing Homes and Day Services);
- Street Lighting (Classified Roads and the Majority of Unclassified)
- Supporting Local Business;
- Youth Services;
Local Area Agreement/Suffolk Strategic Partnership (this brings together a wide range of statutory bodies to work on shared projects); - Haven Gateway Partnership (This is a Government-declared "Economig Growth Point" partnership involving Suffolk and Essex and is specifically concerned with economic activity around the Orwell/Stour estuaries)
SUFFOLK COASTAL DISTRICT COUNCIL
Suffolk Coastal District Council which is our local District Counci, is one of 7 District or Borough Councils in the County. They provide local services including:
- Abandoned Vehicles
- Anti-Social Behaviour
- Building Control;
- Car Parks (NB a few car parks in the region are under the control of Suffolk County Council);
- Council Tax;
- Dog Control;
- Electoral Register
- Food Safety;
- Household Waste Collections;
- Housing;
- Leisure Centres & Swimming Pools;
- Local Plan and Local Development Framework;
- Noise Pollution;
- Open Spaces and Recreation Grounds;
- Planning (Housing and Business);
- Public Parks and Cemeteries;
- Public Toilets;
- Street Lighting;
- Street Nameplates;
- Welfare Rights
PARISH AND TOWN COUNCILS
- Allotments;
- Cemetery;
- Play Areas for Children
- Town in Flower/Floral Displays;
- They are also consulted on Planning Applications;
SUFFOLK PRIMARY CARE TRUST
Suffolk Primary Care Trust provides
- Hospitals;
- Doctors' Surgeries,
- Health Clinics;
- Community Nurses
